National Infertility Awareness Week: Infertility Uncovered
Posted by admin
The National Infertility Awareness Week (NIAW) is one of the largest awareness campaigns that aim to raise public knowledge on the issue of infertility. NIAW was founded in 1989 by RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association, an organization focused on breaking barriers and ending the stigma associated with infertility.
This year’s week-long campaign is themed #InfertilityUncovered as it highlights the lack of access to family building options and significant struggles of infertility-challenged individuals. Different advocacy based activities are launched online and offline to maximize public education and uncover the facts about infertility.
FertilityEHR, a subsidiary of Meditab, wouldn’t want to miss the opportunity to take part in this once-a-year campaign. We are excited to support RESOLVE in spreading informed understanding about infertility, in building a community to connect and empower those living with the condition, and to help improve their lives.
Reproductive technologies have evolved since the 1980s, yet there are still gaps in the availability of treatment. Two of its major barriers include the lack of access to family building options and the limited coverage for infertility treatment. To date, insurance coverage for infertility is only available in 15 out of 50 states in the United States, and coverage varies significantly by state. This derails the process for treatment, leaving a fraction of infertile patients unable to build their own family.
Joining this movement is a good start for providers, clinics, and payers to explore better, legitimate solutions. Awareness will help doctors and clinicians provide appropriate care and treatment options; it will open new opportunities for technology to develop more solutions; and it will advise insurance companies to cover more treatment and procedures for infertile patients.
We at FertilityEHR believe that infertility-challenged individuals deserve the family that they dream to build, and it can only get easier if we continue to support them in any way we can. And it just so happens that we do have a way to help.
