2020 Pain Awareness Month: Is Your EHR Robust Enough?
Posted by Paolo Gabriel Demillo
September is Pain Awareness Month, and the U.S. Pain Foundation is taking the occasion to highlight how pain management care still needs to improve. Launching the #MyPainPlan campaign, the foundation asks patients to take charge, create their own plan, and learn about the benefits of multidisciplinary care. Once they do, is your practice in a position to help?
What is #MyPainPlan?
A non-profit organization advocating for people living with chronic pain, the U.S. Pain Foundation is focusing on the “vital importance of an individualized, multidisciplinary, multimodal approach to pain care.” The #MyPainPlan initiative calls for integrating different treatment strategies and specialist interventions across disciplines to achieve a holistic treatment.
True to its name, the #MyPainPlan campaign includes a new website that allows patients to create a pain plan and learn about different treatments. That includes seven multidisciplinary categories — self-management, restorative, complementary, behavioral health, medications, external devices, and interventional. Patients can then print and share their personalized plans with their doctors.
Is your practice prepared for a fully integrative pain management approach?
Invest in Tools to Help Your Patients
For such a complex strategy, combining treatment options and collaborating with multiple providers, having the right tools is crucial. Your EHR should be the solution.
While most EHRs can handle the day-to-day for practices, pain management clinics have unique needs that call for equally unique software. Having an EHR specifically designed for pain management specialists can go a long way.
Identifying Your Needs
With hundreds of EHR platforms available, finding the right fit for your practice may feel like looking for a needle in a haystack. In reality, though, it doesn’t have to be that complicated.
Ask yourself what current issues in your practice you want your EHR to meet and address. Do you want faster access to patients’ records and to easily share them with other physicians? Are you looking for better patient engagement platforms with mobile capabilities? Or are you looking for ways to streamline and fast-track your charting and documentation process? Knowing first what your most pressing needs are will help you make a more informed choice.
The Right EHR Can Make All the Difference
It’s vital to equip your practice with the right tools that help you execute multifaceted strategies like #MyPainPlan smoothly. That’s why customizable, specialty-specific EHRs like IMS Pain Management exist. No one knows your practice and your patients better than you do. IMS Pain Management adapts to how you operate with fully customizable features, helping make even the most difficult situations a little easier. With the demands on healthcare workers at an all-time high, your practice deserves every advantage.
